Candy Kingdom Defense Evolution Guide

Checked

Wave 32. Three small enemies slipped down the right lane. The boss is at half health. You have 225 gems, one Sandwich and zero Enchiridion Pages.

Do you press EVOLVE on Jake, or keep farming Marceline's Amulet?

The wrong choice does not end the run immediately. It keeps the leak alive while you farm the other recipe, then locks 1,000 gems into a unit that does not fix the problem in front of you.

This page answers one question: which evolution first, and what does it actually change?

The 30-second answer

If small enemies leak: evolve Jake into Alien Jake.

If the waves hold and the boss survives: evolve Marceline into Marceline Beast.

If both are failing: evolve Jake first. Boss damage does nothing if the boss never reaches your damage.

If Marceline is your only line clear: do not evolve her yet. Find another unit to hold the lane first.

If you already own The Lich: Jake Lich is optional. It adds control, not a boss answer.

The test is the next wave, not the tier list. If the next wave would leak without the unit you are about to change, you are about to trade one problem for another.

The two evolutions that change the run

Jake → Alien Jake: buy time

At level 50, Alien Jake's black hole deals 11,000 damage across 43 range. It covers the full area, pulls enemies together and holds them there for about one minute. His poison adds 4,500.

That is not a damage upgrade. It is a time purchase. The black hole stops the leak long enough for your damage units to finish the wave, and the pull turns a spread-out line into one pile.

Pick it when small enemies slip through, when two lanes open at once, or when your current clear cannot cover the whole path.

Do not pick it when the boss is the problem. The black hole controls the lane; it does not delete a boss. Players who evolve Jake for boss damage often feel safer and still lose to the same boss.

The trap is evolving Jake because he is the starter. If your waves already hold, 1,000 gems buy control you do not need yet.

Marceline → Marceline Beast: turn a clearer into a boss killer

Marceline Beast's Claw Dive deals 3,000. Flock of Bats gives her another tool. Drink the Red deals 40,000 to a single target.

That is a role change. A line clearer becomes a boss killer. If the boss reaches your base with most of its health, this is the conversion you want.

Pick it when the waves hold without her and the boss is the unit that ends the run.

Do not pick it when she is your only line clear. The Beast's headline ability is single-target burst; the lane she used to hold will open. You will have paid 1,000 gems to lose the job you needed and not finish the job you wanted.

The test is one question: would the next wave leak without her? If yes, do not press EVOLVE yet.

When the short answer is wrong

Both lanes fail and the boss survives. Jake first. Boss damage is worthless if the boss never gets close. Fix the leak, then build the boss killer.

Marceline is your only line clear. Do not evolve her. Have another line clear ready first. Otherwise you trade a wave problem for a boss problem and keep both.

You already own The Lich. Jake Lich is a second full-area option, capped at 1. If your boss dies slowly, control is not your bottleneck. Spend the materials on boss damage instead.

You are short on gems. Do not start both recipes. The 1,000-gem line is the same across the recipes we captured. Splitting gems across two recipes delays both.

The other five evolutions

Evolution What changes When it makes sense Why not first
Finn → Adult Finn Recipe known; combat comparison not recorded Finn is already your main and you have spare materials No recorded reason it beats Jake for leaks or Marceline for bosses
Bubblegum → Elemental Candy Recipe known; the Gumball Guardian panel belongs to her summon, not to her You use Bubblegum as your area unit Do not judge her by the summon's 2,081 damage / 15.1s cooldown panel
BMO → King BMO 2,000 damage / 3.7 attack speed; max 10,000 / 5.4; cap 2; summons PB, Marceline, Finn and Jake You need more coverage and have two slots Coverage is not leak control, and the cap limits the fix
Lemongrab → Lemongrab 3 Summons lemons; evolved lemons deal about 18,000 damage and stun Lemongrab is already your carry Not a first pick if another unit already covers the lane
Rainicorn → Prism Queen Recipe known; the recorded tier discussion puts Rainicorn low You already invested in Rainicorn No recorded comparison shows it beats the two main answers
The Lich → Jake Lich 20,000 damage / 56 range / 6.1 attack speed / full area; cap 1 You own The Lich and want a second full-area option Capped at 1 and does not replace a boss killer

None of these is a bad unit. They are answers to different questions. The two main answers are about the job that is failing right now.

The recipe is a shopping list

The 10 / 5 / 1,000 totals come from five captured recipe previews plus one completed Marceline run. That is strong enough to plan with, not strong enough to treat as a universal rule.

Two older recordings disagree. A tier video says 6 Sandwiches. Another evolution screen shows 0/40 Pages. The current previews show 10 items and 5 Pages, and the completed Marceline run finished with 5. Open your own EVOLVE panel before farming.

The 50 gems per replay is a listed reward, not a cost. Do not subtract it twice.

Three inventories, three next moves

0 / 10 items. Do not queue ten Act 5 runs yet. Clear the world once, claim the level reward and redeem the codes you have. Then run the loop with a number you can see.

5 / 10 items. Five Act 5 runs cover the item and add 250 gems. Five Dungeon Train wins cover the Pages. The remaining 750 gems come from level rewards, codes or other play. Check Pages before you queue the runs; Pages are the slower line.

9 / 10 items. One Act 5 run finishes the item and adds 50 gems. You still need 5 Pages and about 950 gems. Do not run the tenth item first if your Pages are at zero. The item is not the bottleneck.

A captured Jake preview read 1 / 10 Sandwiches, 0 / 5 Pages and 225 / 1,000 gems. That is a gap of 9 Sandwiches, 5 Pages and 775 gems. Nine Ice King's Wrath runs give 9 Sandwiches and 450 gems. Five Dungeon Train wins give 5 Pages. The remaining 325 gems come from level rewards, codes or other play.

This is arithmetic from listed rewards, not a measured drop rate. If a run does not award the item, add a run.

The rule: farm the line with the larger gap, not the line that is easier to see.

The farm loop

  1. Open EVOLVE, select the base hero and read the three owned / required lines.
  2. Write the gaps down. Do not keep them in your head.
  3. For the personal item, open PLAY, choose the named world and select its Act 5 card. Repeat that stage. Each replay lists 50 gems and one personal item.
  4. For Enchiridion Pages, enter the Dungeon Train challenge. One Page per challenge win.
  5. Re-open the recipe after each session and subtract only what the panel added.
  6. If your panel links a missing item to a destination, follow that link. If it does not, open the world and Act from PLAY.
  7. To complete, return to the Tree Fort, open the EVOLVE panel, select the hero and confirm all three counts are full. Check the level and trait before confirming.

No per-run time was measured. Creators describe the full set as hours of farming. Use your own clear time multiplied by the number of runs; do not copy a video's pace.

If the EVOLVE button stays grey, check the selected hero, the personal item count, the Page count and the gem count. One missing currency is enough.

What evolution keeps, and what it does not

Evolution keeps level, XP and trait. A completed Marceline run kept level 50 and Radical.

The menu does not mention stat grades. Letter grades are a separate system with their own currency. Do not spend Juice on grade rerolls immediately before evolving; wait until you know whether evolution keeps the grade.

Placement caps stay. King BMO is capped at 2; The Lich and Jake Lich are capped at 1. Evolution does not add a slot.

What it does not fix: Jake does not add boss damage; Marceline Beast does not hold the lane; neither fixes a bad trait or a capped placement. The menu does not promise a downgrade. If the evolved form creates a hole, fill it with another unit.

Three costly mistakes

The only-clear mistake. Wave 30. Marceline is the only unit holding the lane. You evolve her because the boss is fat. The next wave opens; the boss is still alive. You spent 1,000 gems to lose the job you needed and did not finish the job you wanted.

The Act 5 Pages mistake. Five Ice Kingdom Act 5 runs. Five Sandwiches. Zero Pages. Pages come from Dungeon Train, not Act 5. The run that feels like progress is the wrong run.

The universal recipe mistake. You assume every hero costs 10 / 5 / 1,000. An older video says 6 Sandwiches; another screen shows 0/40 Pages. You overfarm one line and underfarm another. Open your panel.

Your next five minutes

If the next wave leaks: open Jake's recipe, run Ice Kingdom Act 5 once, then write the gap.

If the boss survives: open Marceline's recipe, confirm you have another line clear, then run Nightosphere Act 5 once.

If both fail: start Jake. Do not split gems across two recipes.

If you are at 9 / 10: check Pages before the last item run.

If you just evolved: check level and trait, then stop. Do not spend Juice on a reroll until you know the grade rule.

Next, read the trait stop table before you touch Juice, or the Lich portal plan if you already own the Secret.
